Art + Group Dinner
Thursday, September 6th, 2012
To take advantage of the "free Thursdays" beginning this week, we'll arrange dinner a little later in downtown Santa Barbara. I'd suggest checking out the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, free between 5 and 8 pm on Thursdays, and we'll meet on it's front steps at
1130 State Street at 8pm to choose a place to eat.
We've had no issues of getting into restaurants mid week so, again, we won't worry about reservations. For those heading back to KITP/Goleta, the 24x bus has it's last run at 10:10pm, so no worries about the slightly later hour for dinner.

Group Dinner
Wednesday, August 29th, 2012
at 7:00pm in downtown Santa Barbara. This week we'll try some recommended smaller venues, breaking up into manageable groups of 5-6 or less if required. Options include: Taqueria Cuernavaca, Roy's, etc.

To get there, there is a 24X bus leaving from campus (pickup at the nearby traffic circle) at 6:35pm. In case of travel by car, we will meet as a group outside the bus terminal at ~7pm to reorganize.
We won't make reservations so late comers are welcome (just email me within 30 min the downtown meetup), although signing up in advance is still highly recommended as encouragement to others to do likewise and to eventually join for dinner.

Channel Islands Outing
This weekend, lets catch a boat to one of the Channel Island for hiking and/or kayaking. I would propose we consider one of the two nearer islands: Anacapa or Santa Cruz with boat departures from Oxnard/Ventura, respectively (with Island Packers). Maps can be found at the National Park Service. There's the option of renting kayaks for either destination. To gauge interest, please sign up tonight stating a preference for hiking or kayaking, for which island, and for which day (Sat or Sun). Since the 10am session has been moved to back to 10am, those interested should meet with me in the inner courtyard at 11am to finalize planning for the weekend.
Name / activity pref / island / Sat vs Sun / have a car? (how many seats?)
Lara / kayaking / Anacapa / either day / no car
Mike / hiking / Santa Cruz / either / car (4+1)
Itamar / hiking / Santa Cruz / either day / no car
Cost: $56 roundtrip boat; $35/55 single/double kayak rental + an additional fee to transport the kayak on board.

Olio Pizzeria - Highest rated pizza place in town, but kind of pricey (up to $20 for individual pie).
Opal - California/Fusion.
Trattoria Vittoria - Italian. Will only take large groups either early (before 5:30) or late (after 8:00).
